Richmond Chrysler Summer Road trip Safety Tips for your Family

With the summer in full bloom, many people are ready to hit the road for some travel and fun. When you do decide to go on your trip, it's helpful to have your summer safety tips handy. Whether it's a short or long drive, you want to be sure you have everything in order. Check out these five road trip safety tips before you go.

Prepare Your Vehicle

First things first. You need to get your vehicle in order. Make sure you have all the necessary items you might need in case of an emergency. Some of the things you could use include:

• Spare tire
• Flashlight
• Map
• Directions
• Snacks
• Water

Get Tuned Up

Before hopping behind the front wheel for that road trip, make sure you take your car in to get a tune up first. Also, check on the status of your oil change. Is it time for one? If so, be sure to get that completed too. You'll want someone to go over the main operation of your car to be sure it will get you to your destination safely.

Make Your Ride Safe

You need to ensure the inside of your car is safe from flying objects should you stop suddenly or get struck by another vehicle. Loose items can become projectiles and cause a lot of damage to you physically.

Also, protect yourself from the sun coming in through the window by wearing sunscreen while you drive. If you have children with you traveling, make sure you have the proper child restraints.

Double Check Your Insurance

Before heading off into the horizon, you may want to make sure your insurance is up to date. If anything were to happen, you don't want to be caught without the necessary coverage. Also, if you don't already have it, you could consider adding coverage for some things you don't have coverage for, such as towing or car rental if something occurs.

Drive Safely

Remember while driving on the road to obey all the traffic laws. This keeps you and others around you safe. One really crucial thing to remember is to not text and drive. This can result in deadly consequences for everyone involved. It only takes a few seconds with your eyes off the road for an accident to occur.
