2021 Ram 1500 Classic

The Ram 1500 Classic is a uniquely affordable way of owning a brand-new, high-quality truck. Based on the previous version of the market-leading Ram 1500, the Classic offers all the power, performance, and capability that the half-ton is known for, but with fewer of the technology features that push up the price. There's a new 2021 version of the Ram 1500 Classic available for sale at our Richmond dealership, and here are the main reasons it's such a popular pickup.

Changes for the 2021

The underlying engineering of the 2021 Classic is unchanged from the previous year, but off-road enthusiasts will be pleased by the introduction of the All-Terrain package available on the Warlock trim. This option upgrades the rear shocks to heavy-duty standard, adds a 1" suspension lift for handling rougher terrain, and also increases the approach and departure angles compared to the standard Classic.

Classic Powertrain Options

While the mainstream Ram 1500 has hybrid and Hellcat powertrain options available, the Classic sticks to two tried-and-tested powerful engines. The base-level has a meaty 3.6L V6 which delivers 305 horsepower and 269lb-ft of torque, passing through an eight-speed automatic transmission to either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. For those with heavier-duty needs, there's a 5.7L HEMI V8 which cranks out fully 395hp and 410lb-ft, enough to handle any task you ask of it.

Payload and Towing Capacities

Raw performance figures mean nothing if a truck isn't up to real-world tasks, but when it comes to payload and towing, the Classic is right up there with its full-scale 1500 sibling. Whichever engine you choose, the pickup bed can carry up to 857kg in payload, and the V6 engine can haul up to 2,164kg behind it in towing weight. But the V8 HEMI powertrain is even more impressive, with a mammoth maximum tow rating of 7,246kg, a figure that's unbeatable in the half-ton segment.

Cabin Configurations

There are two cabin formats for the 2021 Classic. For the most affordable ride, the Regular Cab offers two doors and a single bench seat for three people. This is a format that Ram now only offers on the Classic range. For larger crews, the four-door Quad Cab seats up to six in greater comfort, also offering extra space for tools.
